Earlier this week I installed the bit version od Windows 7 Ultimate, because the upgraded installation did run into problems sometimes, requiring a long time to get an ip address etc. I hope this works for you. I have updated the program and restarted the computer several times however the reader is still not detected. I installed the optional Authentec AESA update and it caused my fingerprint reader to stop working. Just remember to remove the old driver first. Go through the list in this article to troubleshoot this problem.

Not an IT pro? I have updated this from wuthentec troubleshooting section of the HP Support website. I have disable, deleted and reinstalled, everything. Installing HP’s SimplePass, things worked straight away!
Windows indicates that the reader autyentec installed and working properly and that the drivers are up to date. I would go straight to the Device Manager and Rollback, but the option is greyed out. I have the excact same problem, but none of the topics from the link are relevant in my opinion.

My fingerprint reader worked with Vista but when I upgraded to Windows 7 it is not recognized by DigitalPersona.

I had the same thing happen, and determined that you have to go back to an earlier version of the Authentec driver to make it work. There is a brand new driver available from Windows Update, but it doesn’t work.
I went authengec the device manager and rolled back the driver, it is working fine now.
Maybe these different versions are meant for different models, but they appear to be the same driver. I have windows updates set to ask me first, but this one has a mind of it’s own.

I have the same problem on my HPdvea laptop. I even tried removing and finding again the device from device manager and all went well, but DigitalPersona Personal kept saying that fingerprint reader isn’t connected.
